Highlighting & Contouring

I thought I would share with you guys some tips and tricks for highlighting and contouring on the face with makeup.

Contouring:
The purpose of contouring is mainly to define and enhance your features as well as add dimension and shadow to the face. When contouring the cheek bones, start from just below the cheekbone which should align with the middle of your ear. Slowly buff the bronzer below your cheekbone and slowly blend out. Ensure your bronzer is blended nicely and does not look muddy or dirty. A matte brown bronzer is the best option. My favourites include “Hoola” by benefit cosmetics and the too faced chocolate bronzer. Another place to contour is the sides of the nose, using a domed blending brush, simply dust the bronzer down the sides of your nose to make it appear smaller! (Instant nose job) Use whats left on the brush for the temples and jawline for further dimension.

Highlighting:
Highlighting the face is an important part of a makeup look which many people tend to forget. Using highlighter on the face can make you look younger as well as give your face a beautiful radiance and glow which everyone wants. The overall effect of highlighter should make the skin look dewy, smooth and soft rather than metallic and frosty. The main areas on the face that should be highlighted are above the cheekbones, the bridge of your nose, the cupids bow, the inner corner of your eye’s and below the eyes. On the cheeks, apply a small amount of highlighter on the cheekbones. Swipe a small amount of highlighter on the bridge of your nose to refine it. Minimising your dark circles is something many women (and girls) feel the need to do. Highlighting underneath the eyes is easy, simply choose a highlighting concealer a shade lighter than your skin tone and blend this below your eyes with your ring finger. Last but not least, using either a matte white or shimmery white shadow, highlight your cupids bow and inner corners. This will make your lips appear larger and eyes appear more open and awake!
